Who needs more reasons to have SEX? We all do!!!
As we get older we tend to have sex less often and honestly, we tend to exercise less often than we use to. I have some very good news. Most of us have always known that sex is a good form of exercise but there are many other benefits to having sex. Here are just a few:
Sex burns calories – Of course it does but did you know that according to WebMD, 30 minutes of sex can burn 85-100 calories? Imagine if you had sex 5 times a week and burned a total of 500 calories. There goes that huge slice of chocolate cake with chocolate ganache frosting!!
Sex helps you sleep – Do you have trouble falling asleep at night? Too much on your mind. Call your partner in or do it yourself but the object is to reach an orgasm to release the hormone prolactin. Yes, I know that prolactin helps to produce milk in pregnant women but it also helps to make you sleepy.
Sex lowers BP– Research suggests a link between sex and lower blood pressure, says Joseph J. Pinzone, MD. He is CEO and medical director of Amai Wellness.
“There have been many studies,” he says. “One landmark study found that sexual intercourse specifically (not masturbation) lowered systolic blood pressure.” That’s the first number on your blood pressure test.
Improves Women’s Bladder Control – Now this one I honestly didn’t think about at all but according to WebMd, “good sex is like a workout for your pelvic floor muscles. When you have an orgasm, it causes contractions in those muscles, which strengthens them”
Sex reduces stress levels – When you have sex, you release a couple of very positive, feel good hormones, oxytocin and endorphins. Both of these hormones help us to feel less stressed so having sex = less stress.
Sex is good for the heart – Well of course it is. It is exercise which is good for the heart. It lowers our BP which is good for the heart. It helps to reduce stress, yes, which is good for the heart BUT it also helps to regulate hormones like estrogen and testosterone which also impact the systems in our bodies, including the heart!
Sex and Cancer – To be more specific, studies have shown that having sex may reduce prostate and breast cancer providing both of you are reaching orgasms. I did some extra research on this and found that they really cannot prove that there is a great impact preventing cancer however, for me, if there is even a small chance and since sex is enjoyable, why not!
Not tonight, I have a headache – Sex relieves pain!! According to a 2013 German study, “going through with having sex may actually help you to feel better. When study volunteers chose to have sex during a headache episode, about 60% of migraine sufferers and 30% of cluster headache sufferers reported partial or total relief” We come back to those 2 hormones, oxytocin and endorphins as well as an increased blood flow which is always good for a headache so next time your head is throbbing, don’t use it as an excuse but instead, use sex as a cure.
Sex and the brain – Our brains need stimulation too and having sex helps to keep our brains stimulated. Frequent sex helps to promote neuron growth in the area of the brain called the hippocampus. This part of the brain is where we have learning and memory. The chemicals that are released during sex help to promote the neuron growth which in turn helps to promote the stimulation for the learning and memory section of our brain.
Sex and youthfulness – Face creams, body oils, hair products etc. We are all guilty of trying to make ourselves look younger but did you know that sex can help as well? Let us go back to that little hormone called endorphin, the one that makes us feel good. Let us also go back to the sections about sex helping us to sleep, boost blood flow helps to reduce stress, burns calories etc. Yes, all of these help to keep our skin looking younger.
So now you have 10 very good reasons to have MORE SEX!! Enjoy, live long and healthy.
